In my European history class, here in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, students learn about Vesalius, Pieter Breughel, and Jan van Eyck.  The rest of the people on your list are not covered.

We are a kindergarten through 8th grade school (5years to 13 years) for gifted or bright students. I asked our upper level history teachers and our art teacher about your project. They said that the following are mentioned in their classes, which are not always with specific texts: Mercator, Andreas Vesalius, Pieter Paul Rubens, and Jan Van Eyck. The class is World Studies taught to 10th grade students (16 year-olds).

Here are the names of people associated with Flanders that appear in our
textbook: Mercator, Andreas Vesalius, Pieter Breughel de Oudere, and Jan Van Eyck. We use the textbook: World History: The Human Experience
(National Geographic Soceity) by Mounir A. Farah and Andrea Berens Karl and
published by McGraw-Hill. Each name is mentioned briefly in one passage (on
a single page). The only person specifically mentioned in our World Studies
class is Mercator (in reference to the mapping projection).

We have a separate course in European History where more of these people are
discussed. You should receive a response from the teacher of that course
too!

I apologize for not responding more promptly to your e-mail request. I have been very busy with class and other school activities. However, this week I passed along your project to a German exchange student in my class and asked him to comb through the text looking for any of the names that you list.

Becasue I teach United States History, I did not think that many of the names you list were present in my textbook. As I suspected, the results were negative on all accounts. None of your names appear in my textbook, not even Fr. Damiaan, who I though was most likely to be mentioned.

For your information, the text I use with my students is Boorstin, Daniel J. and Brooks Mather Kelly. A History of the United States. Needham, MA: Prentice Hall, 1996.
