I am sorry but there are no general history classes at our school which is a technical school.We only have art history classes.

In our school no Flemish personalities were found in the history books we used now and those we have used for several years. Regards.

In the history books used in Menntaskólinn við Sund in Reykjavík, Iceland there is no mention of any of the persons mentioned on your page. There is an general mention og the Netherlands (not Flandern) in a chapter of growing cities, trades og capitalims in the late middle ages; a more specific mentioning of it in the war for freedom 1560-1648.
However we have too classes in the history of art, using an Icelandic translation of The Story of Art by Gombrich. In that book is mention of Pieter Breughel de Oudere, Victor Horta, Hans Memlinc, Pieter Paul Rubens and Jan Van Eyck.

Dear Sir
A new National Curriculum for History in now being implemented in Iceland. The cover on your left is of the first textbook, Icelandic and World History (from the beginning of historical time until approx. 1750), published in year 2000.
It is a beautiful book but not a good one, in my opinion.
Two Belgian artists are mentioned in the book, Rubens and Peter Bruegels. They are not mentioned in any obvious historical context, their works are used for decorative means. And strangely their names are not in the index.
