I am the Head of the Social Studies Department at the American Community Schools of Athens. I teach Humanities and History to high school students aged 14-17. A review of our texts revealed these results: Mercator, Vesalius, Pieter Brueghel, Pieter Paul Rubens and Jan Van Eyck are mentioned in the texts. None of the others on your list appears.

I hope this is of some use to you in your research. Please let me know the general results when the study is completed.

We have just received your request the concerning Flemish celebrities. I was asked as a Middle School teacher here at TASIS Hellenic to look into your request. My classes and my interests are around history and geography. Incorporated into my classes I quite often introduce the Flemish artists as a special focus to an era in history. (Even when the textbook does not mention them!)

Upon inspection of the books we use in our classes for grades 6 through 9 a few names did appear. Our books for this age span come from the publisher Prentice Hall. Kindly note the books and our confirmations:

Prentice- Hall WORLD EXPLORER series

The Ancient World (1998)

No record

Geography :Tools and Concepts (1998)

Mercator

Medieval Times to Today (1998)

World History: Connections to Today (1999)

Andreas Vesalius

I hope that I have helped you. Please stay in touch with me and share your findings at the end of your research.

A Flemish fan.

Sincerely yours,
