Nous voulons bien répondre à vos questions. Mais je crains que nos réponses vont bien vous decevoir. La Belgique en tant que telle et la Flandre en particulier ne sont pas bien présentes dans les livres d'histoire. C'est un grand tort qui est fait à votre beau pays, mais hélas c'est sans doute comme cela. Nous allons examinmer de près votre question et vous aurez une réponse dans quelques jours.

I reived your e-mail via a colleague of mine. To answer your question: None of the names given by you are mentioned in any of the history books pupils at our school work with. The only exception is Pieter Breughel. One of his paintings (peasants celebrating a feast) is shown in one of the books. As it is very difficult with the technical devices and the software I have got at hand to scan a multi-coloured painting and as the masterpiece in question is very famous indeed, I think you can do without a copy. Dear sir,
as a history teacher at a German Gymnasium you contacted under csg@clara-online.de
I can tell you (without much empirical research for whcih - Iam sorry to say - I
do not have the time) that in our history books for students aged 11-16 I can
only remember a Brueghel painting as a source about the middle ages. For most of
the other names of famous persons I am quite sure that they are not mentioned in
any detail mostly not mentioned at all in our national history books.

I am sure that some of the better know people, in particular artists, do appear in our textbooks. For instance, I know that Breughel, Rubens, and van Eyck paintings are featured. However, I must say that I do not have the time to go through all our texts to tell you exactly which ones are featured and which texts they appear in. Sorry.

Sehr geehrte Kolleginnen und Kollegen! Danke für Ihre Anfrage.Unter anderem sind folgende Personen Gegenstand des Unterrichtes(Geschichte,Kunst,Politik,Deutsch) bzw.werden in Unterrichtswerken oder Nachschlagwerken für die Schule genannt: Mercator, P.Breughel d. Ältere, H.Memling, P.P.Rubens, Jan Van Eyck, E.Merckx, J.L.Dehaene, Egmont und W.Martens. Flandern, insbesondere "Reichsflandern", wird auch als Teil der mittelalterlichen "Reichsgeschichte" behandelt.Das dem "Deutschen"verwandte "Flämische" wid auch partiell in der Sprachgeschichte durchgenommen. Befindet sich Ihre Schule in der Nähe von Brügge? Ich würde mich freuen,weiterhin mit Ihnen Informationen und Gedanken austauschen zu können. Im Voraus schon herzliche Ostergrüße.

Vous nous avez demandé il y a déjà
quelque temps - il faut l'avouer! - si les noms de quelques Flamands célèbres
figurent dans nos manuels d'histoire.
Alors, à vrai dire, je dois vous décevoir un petit peu. Il n'y en a pas
beaucoup.
Dans le manuel pour de la 7e classe - les élèves de 12 -13 ans - on a le sujet
de la réformation et des guerres de religion. Là, on a mentionné en une seule
phrase Egmont:
«Doch Alba unterdrückte auch diese Initiative [c.à.d. la médiation ] und
ließ 1568 sogar die katholischen Vermittler, die Grafen
Hoorn und Egmont, hinrichten.» (Geschichtsbuch 2, Cornelsen Verlag,
Berlin)
C'est tout.
On trouve encore une reproduction d'une peinture de Pieter
Breughel de Oudere,
c'est «L'assassinat des enfants de Bethlehem» de 1566. Sans aucune explication
ou commentaire.
C'est tout ce que j'ai trouvé. Dans les autres manuels, il n'y en a rien.
Vous demandez aussi quel rôle la Flandre joue dans notre enseignement. La
réponse qui concerne surtout l'histoire, ma matière: aucun. (Je regrette!)
