I am a high school social studies teacher in an American school in Cochabamba, Bolivia. In our Grade 10 World History textbook (World History: The Human Experience, Glencoe, MacMillan/McGraw-Hill), both Andreas Vesalius and Mercator appear. In fact, Mercator is mentioned in all the texts I use for grades 8 through 10 (in the sections which introduce or review the topic of map projections).
