Quetelet was an astronomer, meteorologist, statistician and sociologist. He became famous because of his accurate statistic research of social appearances. He claimed that man was determined by birth and surroundings. Quetelet starts from the principle of the average man. The differences between people can be measured in terms of deviating this average. He was seen as the father of the quantitative method in sociology.
