Horta was one of the pioneers and leading practitioners of Art Nouveau architecture or Jugendstill in Belgium but also outside Begium’s borders. He was especially interested in using new materials in his structures such as glass and iron. These structures show  characteristic flowing “whiplash lines”.

Well-known are ‘Hotel Solvay’, ‘Het volkshuis’ and ‘Paleis voor schone kunsten’.
