Jan van Eyck may be considered as history’s most important renewer of the art of painting. Van Eyck ushered in an new era in the Low Countries in the 15^th century: ‘de Vlaamse Primitieven’. This period is characterized by a naturalistic style of vivid oil colours, meticulous detail, accurately rendered textures, and the illusion of three-dimensional space on a two-dimensional surface. Van Eyck’s perspective wasn’t scientifically correct but he succeeded in creating depth in a convincing way.

Belonging to his most important work: ‘Het Lam Gods’, ‘De Madonna met de Kanunnik’,
