With
this exercise we're looking for the presence of famous Flemish people in
history-manuals used all over the word.
How
do we work?
We select a list of famous Flemish people from the Middle Ages until now.
We make a short c.v. of these people in Dutch, French and English.
We make a website with photographs and pictures of the persons involved. You also find information of the people working on the project (students and teachers). On this website everyone can see the progress of the exercise.
We make a list of schools we'd like to contact.
These schools will be notified by e-mail
We'd like to ask the history teachers of these schools to check in which way famous Flemish people appear in their manuals, and how much attention they pay to them. We'd like to ask then to send us information they find in their manuals and to scan the cover and the proper pages.
Once we received the information we'll place it on the website. A thoroughly report of the results will be made when closing the exercise.
To acquire knowledge about the part Flemish people play or played. This exercise is also a means for students and teachers to refresh their historical knowledge. This exercise offers us the possibility to check the point of view of foreigners about us, Flemish people.
Through the many contacts, our students get the chance to improve there practical knowledge of foreign languages and in addition to that they also learn to make use of modern communication techniques.
This exercise is also meant to learn our students (from general and technical education) how an exercise like this gradually develops, how it is executed and how to get meaningful results.
We also hope that the contacts we have with countries abroad will lead to an intercultural exchange.
Last bust not least: the project can also be turned around. What is mentioned in our manuals about e.g. famous Indian people?
